The Retirement Industry Advisory Group includes leading business executives from the Alliance’s member companies, industry experts and thought-leaders. The group provides guidance and input to the Institute’s research agenda and programs, provides business insights and data, and helps develop real-world innovations and applications to the Institute’s research to help advance the retirement income security of Americans.

  • Barry Stowe

    Co-Chair; former CEO of Jackson National Life Insurance, and member of the Board of Directors for Zurich Insurance Group

    Barry Stowe

    Barry Stowe has extensive business experience and knowledge gained through executive roles in the insurance industry in North America and Asia. Between 2006 and 2018 he was a member of the board of directors and the group executive committee of Prudential plc. From 2015 to 2018 he served as chairman and CEO of Jackson Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of Prudential plc, and from 2006 to 2015, as CEO of Prudential Corporation Asia. From 1995 to 2006 he held senior executive positions at American International Group (AIG), including serving as president of AIG Life Companies Accident & Health Worldwide based in Hong-Kong from 2001 to 2006. From 1992 to 1995 he served as president of NISUS, a subsidiary of Pan-American Life Insurance Group. From 1980 to 1992 he held several positions at Willis Corroon Group plc in the U.S., an insurance and reinsurance brokerage services company. He joined the boards of Zurich Insurance Group Ltd and of Zurich Insurance Company Ltd in April 2019.

    Daniel P. Herr

    Dan Herr is Senior Vice President, Annuity Product Management in the Annuity Solutions division of Lincoln Financial Group. He currently leads the Annuity Product Management team for fixed, fixed indexed, registered index linked and variable annuities.  He is responsible for product design, development and implementation, product management and strategy, market insights, innovation, and the competitive positioning of all individual annuity products, features and services offered through a variety of distribution channels.  Dan has 38 years of industry experience and has been with Lincoln’s Annuity team for over 30 years.  His deep experience in the development and marketing of innovative retirement solutions includes leading the development of Lincoln’s i4LIFE® Advantage income rider, the industry’s first Long-Term Care Variable Annuity combination rider, the award-winning Lincoln Level Advantage® registered index linked annuity, and the American Legacy® Target Date Income Variable Annuity.  Dan holds a BS in actuarial science from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

    Jason Fichtner

    Jason Fichtner is Chief Economist at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Previously, he was Senior Lecturer of International Economics and Associate Director of the International Economics and Finance (MIEF) program at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). His research focuses on Social Security, federal tax policy, federal budget policy, retirement security, and policy proposals to increase saving and investment. Fichtner served in several positions at the Social Security Administration, including Deputy Commissioner of Social Security (acting), Chief Economist, and Associate Commissioner for Retirement Policy. He also served as a Senior Research Fellow with the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, Senior Economist with the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, Economist with the Internal Revenue Service, and as a Senior Consultant with the Office of Federal Tax Services at Arthur Andersen, LLP. Fichtner earned his BA from the University of Michigan, his MPP from Georgetown University, and his Ph.D. in public administration and policy from Virginia Tech.

    Bryan Pinsky

    Bryan Pinsky serves as Senior Vice President of Individual Retirement Pricing and Product Development for AIG. In this role, he is responsible for all actuarial pricing activities, rate setting, product development, investment product management and contract filing.

    Joining AIG in 2014, Bryan began as the Senior Vice President of Individual Retirement Products within AIG, leading the development and management of all variable, indexed, fixed and immediate retail annuities. Advancing AIG products with cutting-edge ideas, Bryan and his team oversaw the development and management of these products, including innovative product and investment creation, product implementation, distribution support, research, state filing, and managing the investment platform along with board oversight. Bryan moved into his current role in 2018.

    Prior to joining AIG, Bryan led the Annuity Product team for Prudential Annuities for seven years. In this role, he helped grow their variable annuities’ sales to number one in the industry via the development and creative adaptation of various lifetime income features, which included unique risk management techniques. Earlier, Bryan spent 10 years at Allstate Financial where he held various positions with Life Insurance and Annuity Product Development. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

    Dianne Bogoian is senior vice president and head of Product Solutions at Prudential Annuities. She leads the product organization in developing innovative solutions and managing the current block of annuities business.

    Prior to joining Prudential Annuities in 2017, Bogoian spent 18 years at Voya Financial (previously ING U.S.), most recently as senior vice president (SVP) of Retirement Product. During her tenure at ING, she held several leadership roles, including head of Healthcare/Not-for-Profit and Government Retirement Markets, chief administration officer and sales support director for the Tax-Exempt Retirement Market and SVP of Sales Support and Product and Financial Management for the Tax-Exempt Retirement Market.

Ms. Gee is responsible for the design of new products and features that ensure Equitable’s competitiveness in the individual annuity marketplace In addition to product design, Ms. Gee leads development of individual annuity products through the full life cycle of product development from market research to providing direction, training and support to the Company’s distribution channels relative to the positioning of variable annuity products She has been with Equitable for over 20 years, holding roles in Annuity sales and service operations as well as various management positions in business intelligence and product development Ms. Gee studied Business Administration at Montclair State University.

    Jack Vanderhei

    Jack VanDerhei is the director of Retirement Studies at Morningstar Center for Retirement and Policy Studies and the editor of Benefits Quarterly. Previously, he was research director of the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) and, prior to that, he was on the faculty of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he served as research director of the Pension Research Council. He has more than 200 research publications on the financial aspects of retirement plans and retirement income adequacy. He is also analyzing a database with annual observations of over 27 million 401(k) participants from more than 100,000 plans. This has resulted in annual updates of the 401(k) universe for account balances, asset allocation and loan activity since 1996. The most recent research, “401(k) Plan Asset Allocation, Account Balances, and Loan Activity in 2016,” was jointly published by EBRI and the Investment Company Institute in August 2018 as well as a November 2018 joint publication on What Does Consistent Participation in 401(k) Plans Generate? Changes in 401(k) Account Balances, 2010–2016.

    Warren Cormier is Executive Director of the DCIIA Retirement Research Center (RRC). He has previously served as CEO and co-founder of Boston Research Technologies and as president and founder of Boston Research Group. Warren is a veteran in the financial services industry with more than 25 years of experience in research for investment companies, banks and insurance companies. He is also recognized as a market research leader in the defined contribution industry. Warren is the co-founder of the Behavioral Finance Forum with Dr. Shlomo Benartzi and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He has testified before the Department of Labor as well as the IRS and Treasury at various hearings on rulemaking initiatives affecting workplace retirement plans. Jim serves on the American Benefits Council’s Policy Board of Directors. He is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University where he earned degrees in economics and business.

    Judy Huang is Senior Vice President of Regional Product Strategy and leads product strategy and development initiatives across Franklin Templeton globally. Prior to her current role, she was Vice President, Senior Product Manager for Franklin Equity Group and led product management for the Franklin U.S. growth, core, and hybrid strategies. Ms. Huang has been with Franklin Templeton since 2007.

    Prior to Franklin Templeton, Ms. Huang was a Research Analyst at Roth Capital Partners and an Investment Specialist at MetLife.

    Ms. Huang earned her B.A. degree in economics and international relations from Boston University and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder, a member of the CFA Institute, and a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco (CFASF).

    Dr. David Kelly is the Chief Global Strategist and Head of the Global Market Insights Strategy Team for J.P. Morgan Asset Management. With over 20 years of experience, David provides valuable insight and perspective on the economy and markets to the institutional investor and financial advisor global communities.

    David’s research focuses on investment implications of an evolving economic environment. He has written extensively on all aspects of the U.S. economy and his proprietary U.S. economic forecasting model helps shape his views on both the economic landscape and prospective asset class returns. He currently sits on JP Morgan Fund’s operating committee.

    Throughout his career, David has developed a unique ability to explain complex economic and market issues in a language that financial professionals can use to communicate to their clients. He is a keynote speaker at many national investment conferences and a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg, and other financial media outlets.

    Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Asset Management, David served as Economic Advisor to Putnam Investments. He has also served as a senior strategist/economist at SPP Investment Management, Primark Decision Economics, Lehman Brothers and DRI/McGraw-Hill.

    David is a CFA® charterholder. He also has a Ph.D and M.A. in Economics from Michigan State University and a B.A. in Economics from University College Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.
