Alliance for Lifetime Income Mourns the Loss of Retirement Income Institute Co-chair Jon Forman

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 18, 2021 — Professor Jon Forman, a leading authority on tax and ERISA issues and founding co-chair of The Alliance for Lifetime Income’s Retirement Income Institute, died on August 16, 2021.

“We are extremely grateful for the role Professor Forman played in launching the Retirement Income Institute in 2020 and co-leading our Scholars Advisory Group,” said Jean Statler, Alliance for Lifetime Income CEO. “Jon poured his time and energy into our mission because of a shared belief that no hardworking American should go bankrupt in retirement. His passion for that cause was matched by his geniality in bringing together diverse viewpoints, which was key to the early success of the Institute. The intellectual legacy he leaves behind will have a lasting impact on America’s retirement landscape.”

Forman was an original member of the Alliance’s Retirement Income Institute, serving as a founding co-chair and co-leading the Scholars Advisory Group, a cohort of noted academic and industry thought leaders. He also played an integral role in the Retirement Income Dialogues in Fall 2020.

Outside of his role with the Alliance, Forman served as the Kenneth E. McAfee Centennial Chair in Law at the University of Oklahoma, where he taught courses on tax and pension law. His name appears in more than 300 publications, including prolific writing on retirement income. In addition to his many scholarly publications, Forman has published Op-Eds in numerous newspapers and magazines.
